Final Evaluation Report in French. CARE Burundi received USAID funding to implement a 12 month project aimed at building local capacities for peace in three communes in Burundi. The Sasagazamahoro (Kirundi for 'Spreading Peace') objective was as follows: "Communities of Commons Giheta, Gitega and Makebuko have access to improved and sustainable opportunities to resolve conflicts at the local level and influence the national process of peace building."
Targeted results included:
- A framework for a sustainable dialogue and referral of cases between judges, the administration and the mechanisms of conflict resolution community / traditional exists and is functional in the province of Gitega
- Communities Giheta, Gitega and Makebuko in Gitega province, have a better ability to analyze, prevent and manage conflicts and local disputes, especially those relating to land and the return of refugees, IDPs and demobilized militia
- An increase in the participation of local peacebuilding mechanisms in national forums
