The World Justice Project (WJP) works to advance the rule of law through a multidisciplinary approach involving original research, data collection, and analysis as well as engagement and support of an active and global network of policy-makers and reformers. The Development Associate is based in the Washington, DC office and will have responsibility for 1) supporting public and private sector fundraising activities; 2) identifying institutional grant opportunities and coordinating development of proposals; 3) maintaining and refining systems to track fundraising efforts; and 4) providing administrative support as needed to senior leadership.
The position will be based in the WJP Washington, DC office. WJP maintains a hybrid in-office/remote work schedule. Staff are expected to be located within commuting distance of our DC office, and to work from the office at least three days per week.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
80% Fundraising Support
- Track WJP’s public and private sector giving history and prospects
- In coordination with Chief of Philanthropic Partnerships, assist with cultivation of corporate, individual, and foundation donors and prospects
- In coordination with Chief of Public Sector Partnerships, identify institutional grant opportunities and lead coordination of proposal development
- Provide executive support for senior development staff, including notetaking, scheduling meetings, managing correspondence, and tracking outcomes in WJP databases
20% Operations and Administrative Support
- Manage and improve the organization’s Salesforce database
- Assist senior staff with research, scheduling, and other tasks as necessary
Skills and Experience
- Demonstrated development experience, leading or supporting the identification, cultivation and stewardship of institutional, individual, corporate or foundation fundraising targets
- Superior oral communication and interpersonal skills, especially a demonstrated ability to communicate in a professional manner with senior level professionals both in writing and by telephone
- Superior writing, editing, and analytical skills
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail
- Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with others, and flexibility to respond to various projects and deadlines
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize multiple competing tasks under deadlines
- Familiarity with Salesforce database software
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite software; G Suite software; and web-based research tools

Education
- A. in international affairs, social sciences, policy studies, regional studies, or other relevant field
Physical Requirements
While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is frequently required to use finger dexterity as well as sufficient hand dexterity to use a computer keyboard, and is frequently required to be capable of reading a computer screen. The employee also may need to remain seated for long periods of time, have the ability to perform repetitive motions, grasp objects, including a writing instrument, stand, communicate verbally and hear well enough to detect nuances and receive detailed information. The employee may be required to walk, push or pull objects, bend, squat, reach, or kneel. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision for expansive reading and/or data analysis. Working Conditions
The work conditions described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing this job. WJP staff work indoors in a heated and air-conditioned office, with a mixture of natural, incandescent, and fluorescent light with low to moderate noise levels.
