Policy Officer – UK
Ms. Marta Clave - HR Coordinator
Salary: £29,188 per annum pro-rata, plus excellent benefits
Contract: One year (with a possibility of extension subject to funding)
This is an exciting opportunity for someone with 3-5 years policy or advocacy experience to grow their expertise and demonstrate the capacity to take on more substantive responsibilities in representation, policy and strategy development in a dynamic peace and security focused role.
Building International Alert’s influencing capability has been identified as a priority under its new five-year strategic plan. This role will play an important part in realising this goal, through supporting the delivery of Alert’s forthcoming global influencing strategy. The strategy is designed to both build internal influencing capacity as well as define and pursue core organisational influencing priorities.
Reporting to the Head of Advocacy and Communications the role will provide support to country and thematic teams for the integration of advocacy into proposals and designs, support team strategy development, undertake basic representational duties in the UK and play a role in growing and maintaining networks and relationships. In particular, the role will support senior staff to progress efforts to make peacebuilding approaches central to government responses to conflict. It will also provide strategic research and analytical support to the Director of Programmes.
You have strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated potential for representational work. Robust research and analysis capabilities are essential as will be familiarity with advocacy strategy development and delivery. Experience in writing for a policy-making audience is highly desirable. You should be able to demonstrate a knowledge of policy making processes and possess an understanding of peacebuilding, development or defence and security fields.
