This is a recording of the M&E Thursday Talk from May 3rd, 2018 as Dr Valentine Gandhi of the Development CAFE hosted the M&E Thursday Talks to lead a discussion on “Using Blockchain Technology in Development Programming.”
There has been a lot of buzz around Blockchain technology as the next big thing in the digital revolution, and we are finally coming to realize that its use could be a game changer in International Development.
But what is Blockchain? Are these claims overstated or can we actually apply this to programming? What are the potential uses? And what are the potential downfalls?
These and several other questions were explored by Dr Valentine J Gandhi, from The Development CAFÉ, a research and development think tank based in Kenya and Indonesia. He is a Senior Evaluator, Researcher and ICT4D expert who has been implementing innovative development interventions in Asia and Africa for nearly two decades, particularly in conflict zones. Valentine shared his experience of using Blockchain technology from his own projects with refugees as well as his experience in collaborating with other partners’ projects.
