M&E Thursday Talk – Surveys and Countering Violent Extremism: A Practitioner Guide

This is a recording from the M&E Thursday Talk on March 15th, 2018 as Matthew Nanes led a discussion on “Surveys and Countering Violent Extremism: A Practitioner Guide.

How can aid agencies use surveys effectively to design, monitor, and evaluate programs on countering violent extremism? By nature, conflict and post-conflict areas pose challenges for survey measures. The potential for violence makes access difficult, and the sensitivity of the topic gives respondents reason to lie or refuse to answer important questions. The Asia Foundation’s practitioner guide to surveys and CVE illustrates the most common challenges to using surveys in this context and suggests a range of solutions that implementers can use. It draws on examples and best practices from policy and academic research in a diverse set of locations, including Pakistan, the Philippines, and Myanmar. This webinar focused on the most common challenges aid agencies face in using surveys for CVE and provide an overview of potential solutions.
