Using social media to build peace and inclusivity and to counter hate speech (2021)

International Alert, Stockholm International Peace Research Institute

Created 07/13/2021

The session ‘Using social media to build peace and inclusivity and to counter hate speech’ was organized in partnership with International Alert and PAX, at the 2021 Stockholm Forum on Peace and Development ‘Promoting Peace in the Age of Compound Risk’.

International Alert and PAX approach social media from different angles in this session, to create a space for cross-context learning about the opportunities for using social media as a peacebuilding tool. They also examine how this applies on the ground and what it means for practitioners in terms of challenges and opportunities. The discussion around social media is more pertinent during Covid-19, as life and discussions have moved online, increasing opportunities for both threats and peacebuilding.
